And that's not quite a wrap as I have too much to say.

Another wee update on us.  Jono is aiming to do some sort of Civil Engineer training.  He's commenced study this week.  I am looking for jobs, now we've settled in Christchurch.  It had been a bit of a nerve racking time.  We were trying to trust God.  It seems to have settled down now.

So I didn't take any notes for our final week as 'missionaries' so we'll have to see how my memory serves!
Week 2nd of Dec
Tuesday morning we had the national disability day, which we found out about on Monday.  And we were meant to do a skit, we opted for a song instead, at least the kids had practiced that.

The guest speaker dancing with funny-looking-glasses-man, this would never happen in NZ!
Tues evening we had a missionary family around for dinner which was lovely.  A great family to talk to.  I made nachos which is the first time the 'mum' had nachos.  She apparently has subsequently made them for her family which was a hit.  Yuss taking nachos to the world.
We'd turned out to be pretty busy.  We went to our final morning meeting at the base which was nice.  Then we headed to Bethesda, there was a group of people who came to see it, so one missionary made cake - Yay!  Our pastors (the Lata's) had us around for dinner, which was awesome.  They had made us an African outfit which was lovely of them.

Thursday the children got presents from a missionary family which was cool.  We had our farewell lunch (at 4pm) with the Bethesda ladies.  It was an awesome meal.  They also had made us a Zambian outfit which they presented to us.

Geofrey's special haircut, which he kindly allowed me to take a pic of.

Friday we had our farewell with the children.  Sadly it was overshadowed by another group who had come to see Bethesda and gave gifts.  The afternoon we spent packing.

I thought there was a little something something going on between these two, finally got some evidence :)

Of course we had to finish on a silly note
Saturday consisted of more packing.  It's amazing how long it takes to pack 2 suitcases full of stuff.  When we were eventually done at about 2pm we caught a bus to Lusaka.  Stayed once again with Jasper, who was hospitable as always.
We caught an early morning bus (sigh - final one) and headed to Livingstone for a final getaway! Holiday week!!! One had to make the most of being over that part of the world!  It is a long way to go from NZ back there.

Fortunately we did not give our left or right "arms" to street children

Us before the terrifying rapids!

It seemed as if rainy season hadn't hit Kabwe but it was evident that it had hit Livingstone.  First item to do while there was the white water rafting.  Having particularly weak arm muscles (me, not Jono) we opted for the half day.  In our crew we had a man who was almost 70, talk about taking on the world!  It was an exhilerating experience, taking on the rapids.  Feeling cocky as we approached the final rapid, we tipped.  And hence commenced the oh so too close encounter with the 'gnashing jaws of death' (name of the rapid).  Having managed to hold on while the boat tipped (and holding onto my paddle) successfully, then came the next bit of the rapid which pulled at me with almighty force that I let go of both the boat and the paddle and was sucked under water.  I resurfaced under the boat.  Feeling tired from trying to hold on, I mustered up the strength to get out from under the boat.
Holding on once again to the boat, then another part of the rapid abused me and dislodged me from my connection with the boat and the air.  Once again I resurficed under the boat, feeling exhausted I mustered my strength again to get out from there.  Finally our guide flipped the boat upright and dragged an exhausted me inside.  There I found Jono, who also managed to stay with the boat, although didn't have quite the encounter I did.  We were the only two from our crew who managed it (not including the guide, one of them!).  Arms exhausted we then did a mammoth climb up to the waiting vehicle (to exhaust our legs too) and had a lovely provided lunch.  For evidence of said rafting experience we have a dvd, sadly no pics.

Prayer thanks

Probably not worth waiting for, but good as a diary for me/us?

So I am a complete and utter slacker as I haven't updated it in such a long time, and I have no excuse!

Update on us currently:  We are still undecided about what to do this year.  God seems to be being rather quiet about what he would like us to do, which is rather frustrating!  We are going to see a careers counsellor on Monday, so hopefully he'll shed some light on the situation.

Back to Zambia . . .
3 Week summary commencing 11th Nov
Peter and Brenda were away on leadership training course.  This meant that I needed to spend every morning at Bethesda to help with the teaching.  We’ve had a few new kids join Bethesda around then, which was nice.  We also had a German guy, Philip, join Bethesda, which is great.  Unfortunately for him (fortunately for Bethesda!), I handed quite a few tasks over to him to continue with.  I was so proud of our kids, they filled up one and a half shoe boxes to give to some other children (in another poorer community) for Christmas, it was soo generous of them!

While the teacher is away. . .
The kids got given some donated shoes, on display here
I did a teaching session on nutrition to the Bethesda ladies, I think that seemed to go ok.
Jono took discipleship two Thursdays which also seemed to go well.  He also took it one Friday, that went poorly as he had no interpreter.  He had to do it at the last minute, because the guy who was meant to do it pulled out L
He also got to preach a final sermon, which he enjoyed.

Doing his thing
Our church
I borrowed a sewing machine off a fellow missionary to attempt to make a tie (or several).  I was thinking it maybe an area that the Bethesda ladies could expand into, add to their repertoire.
Makalulu group had been struggling with low numbers.
Jono had attended some discipleship classes which he has enjoyed.
We got our work permits finally!!! AND I got my physio registration!!!
We finally got another thunderstorm.

A CB or something like that
Rain has been lacking for 'rainy' season.  I guess it was running late.  20 mins of rain per week hardly qualifies.
Samuel, one of the Bethesda kids, got burned by his Mum for stealing.  It was quite a big burn about the size of a business card.  It required daily dressings, lucky me.
Jono did an inventory for donated Bethesda items and continued attending some discipleship classes.

We came home one day, and this was our driveway!  They hadn't even warned us they were going to do it.  Lucky we were out, or else our car would have been trapped in for 3 days, which would have been massively inconvenient.
Forgot to put this on the last post, it's a toilet reciept, incase you can't read, for 0.25 NZD.

Prayer thanks
- For safety while we've been travelling
- For the enjoyable times we've had with family and friends

Prayer requests
- For guidance about what we do this year

Bethesda/OM prayer request (We haven't heard much recently)
- That the start of the new term would be going well
- That the students will be learning well
-That the building is going well

Boats, nshima and making faces

We've had no internet most of the week (story of my life!) however you are in luck as we got it back yesterday!
Weeks of the 13th ish and 21st Oct
-        On Sunday we went to Grace church.  I was feeling a bit homesick, and said that to a guy there.  His family were heading out to Mulingushi for Sunday and Monday.  He invited us along, and we gratefully accepted!  It was so nice to get away from Kabwe and have a bit of scenery, go for a boat ride, a walk, and swim in the lake (and pool).  The lake apparently has only a couple of crocodiles in it, lucky our limbs are still in tact!  Their family (esp the Mum and Dad) were real passionate adventurous Christians, some of the most inspirational people we've met here.

On top of that rock again.

I liked this gecko, seems a classic pose.
Monday evening was a talk by the Mum (Tina).  The following Monday evening she did another one. They were amazing.  She read this book called 'a more excellent way', which talks about gaining healing by confession/repentance.  She is so passionate about what God has done in her, and about his word.  She talks about her old self  (where she was on the mission field but she was angry at God and barely prayed or read the bible), and her new self and the transformation sounds amazing.  It's been a long time since I've come home from a talk feeling like I want to get more into God/his word.

Thursday we had them round for dinner.
Also on Thursday we were told we had to attend a mid-afternoon meeting.  We found out about it the day before which was after we'd already made dinner plans.  It required a compulsory donation.  It was only once we got there that we found out that it was a banquet and food was what the donation was for.
-        Jono has been doing an inventory of items at Bethesda (which he finished this week).  He also continues to help Peter with computer tasks, one week was help training-up with the newsletter, yes it does take that long!  On both Fridays Jono talked at the Makalulu group, the main challenge was he had no interpreter for one.
-        We attended the braii on Friday night, Jono got asked to say grace, he commenced with “God thank you for the All Blacks” which was pretty hilarious in front of a number of South Africans.  That'll be the last time he's asked to say grace at the braii!
School continued to go reasonably well, I enjoy the children a lot.

Me making nshima under Brenda's guidance, with an onlooker!
Jono also had a go, much to their amusement!
Kids practising emotions.

What do you do when your truck is too tall for the line that crosses the road?  Lift it over the truck of course.  Nothing like holding up traffic on the 'state highway 1' of Zambia/Africa!
Ut oh I'm screwed when I get back to NZ! (read the small blue writing under "trading")
On Saturday we went to the market, I brought lots of Chitengis.  Answers to Kabwe-itis (while remaining in Kabwe) Chitengis and juice!  (Maybe I’ll include chocolate too!!!  Mmmm chocolate). We started watching a boring dvd 'Robin hood men in tights' I think it was meant to be funny, however the humour didn't appeal to me.  We didn't finish it.  I couldn't.  We also played risk with our neighbour, it's been a long time since I've played (I didn't do very well.)
-       Tuesday we went to Volleyball only to discover it was packed, so many people.  So we decided to bail, but Tina invited us in for a ‘coffee’ and we played pickle ball with her and her son instead.  Pickle ball is great, like a cross between table tennis and tennis
-        I had a small frame made for a 3 year old girl as everything we had was too big.  I got to give it out, which was nice.

We had our first thunderstorm, amazeballs, and our first rain (that was longer then 10 secs). I like rain so much more here!  Its amazing what having so long without rain can do to you.

Jono excited by that drop of rain, do you see it????
Thursday 24th was Zambian independence day which meant a holiday J We were planning to head to Ibis gardens (haven’t been there but it has a pool) but it was too cold after the rain/thunderstorm.  Instead we headed to a missionary's farm and spent some of the day there playing games/eating.  We headed home and were busy preparing things for the next day. We rewatched the pineapple story with our neighbour (he’d been feeling in a bit of culture shock).
-          Friday we had the kids independence celebration – I made a cake, pinyata (we papermached a balloon), pass the parcel, treasure hunt, and they did traditional Zambian dancing.

We babysat on Saturday for a missionary family/families most of the day had 3 kids, but part of it had 5! We were pretty worn out by the time we finished.  Having kids is hard work!!

Prayer thanks
